Are You At Risk of Developing Oral Cancer?
According to the Oral Cancer Foundation, over 43,000 people are diagnosed each year with cancer of the mouth. This serious and sometimes fatal cancer impacts your head and neck areas. To stop this cancer from worsening, it is vital that you get regular oral cancer screenings.
Risk Factors for Oral Cancer
It’s a sad fact that approximately 25% of all people with oral cancer are not considered “at risk.” Still, there are certain risk factors that put some people at a higher risk than others. These include:
- Anyone who consumes alcohol or tobacco more than three times per week.
- Anyone with the HPV virus.
- Anyone over the age of 40.
- Anyone with a history of oral cancer.
No matter whether you fall under one of these risk factors, it is important that you get screened for oral cancer on a regular basis.
Oral Cancer Screenings are Easier Than You Might Think
If you notice an abnormal growth or sore in your mouth, have difficulty swallowing, or are unusually hoarse, schedule an appointment with Dr. Badie right away.
During your oral cancer screening, Dr. Badie will look inside your mouth using a special technology called ViziLite Plus. It’s a painless procedure that lasts for approximately 5 minutes. During the procedure, any abnormalities you might have will appear. If you have an abnormality, Dr. Badie will refer you to an oral surgeon for further diagnosis and treatment.
We strongly urge all of our patients to get regular oral cancer screenings. The sooner it is detected, the sooner you can treat it and minimize the risks.
Schedule your oral cancer screening with Saeid Badie DDS, P.C. by calling 520-433-9800 now.
